High Post Golf Club
With its stunning views High Post Golf Club, named after the site of an ancient gallows, is located on the southern reaches of Salisbury Plain, close to Stonehenge and the historical cathedral city of Salisbury. Thanks to the chalk down-land, free draining terrain, it is playable all year round with no winter tees or greens.
There is a fully-stocked Pro Shop, with something for everyone and, when the time comes to relax, you can rest assured that our friendly and efficient staff will provide the best of service in our welcoming clubhouse.
The Course
Described by 'Golf Monthly' as a "hidden gem," the 6,305 yards par-70, 18-hole course with 72 bunkers at High Post has, over the years, received many complimentary remarks.
The easy-walking course is characterised by its undulating well-bunkered fairways, deep well disguised grass hollows, all year round playability and excellent turfs. To keep a good scorecard, excellent club selection is vital. Each hole is bordered by either hawthorn or blackthorn bushes and there are some exceptional views across Salisbury Plain.
Often played downwind, the first three holes should give you a fine start. Depending on wind direction, the uphill 152 yard two-tier green eleventh will demand anything from a wood to a short iron. The raised sixteenth green is around 30 feet above the level of the fairway and with the hole playing every inch of 439 yards even a long second shot is likely to fall short. Good judgement is required on both the par-3 seventeenth, the longest of the par-3's, and the fine par 4 eighteenth.
